Gina, this is INCREDIBLE.

It took me a while to read this because I was so incredibly sad that I couldn't see the show in Los Angeles, and I knew I was missing out. I love Big Star, but the music always brings the feelings to me, the ones similar to yours as well as much darker ones. It's music that is important to me.

I am so glad I read this, so well put. As usual.

I love this. I went to see them at the last minute too, and found the show unexpectedly moving. Hearing those songs live was almost an out-of-the-body experience. Patrick Sansone in particular was a revelation- but all the musicians took a turn at taking my breath away.

I'm coming late to this, via a recommendation from Caryn Rose, and wanted to say--I was at that same show, and I felt like it was time travel to a shared imaginary space. To the space with Chilton and Bell and Hummel, as you said; to the space where they made those records; to the places where Mills and Auerbach and Sansone and Stamey first heard them and dreamed; to a place outside the Live-Nation-ization of concerts (no QR codes, no $18 beers, just heat and sweat and a walk through the Tenderloin). I can't believe the signed posters were only $30 each. I've paid more for a t-shirt. It's hanging up in my hall now.

Such a great show, wasn't it? I felt exactly the same. I almost didn't go, just a last minute ask from a friend with a spare ticket, too.
