Me too! Last night I saw a guy who looked like a biker, with tattoos, sitting on the ground scratching a big pig's head, and it was impossible to tell who was happier.
Lovely. Two thoughts: remind me to tell you some time about the day I heard Xanna Don't and the Willing play on the same bill as racing pigs (Xanna was a good sport; the pigs were in it for the Oreos). And... you didn't have an artichoke? I would have been all over those 'chokes.
For some reason I think that places back east get better county fair acts than here. Someone posted a list of whose playing the New York County Fair this year and it was Nas, Foreigner, and a bunch of other (bad) bands that i could write the shit out of...all real, not tributes. As for the chokes...artichokes are a big deal here - Castroville is "the artichoke capital of the world" - I love fried mushrooms and fried zucchini even more!
I had to find a carnival ride vendor for a corporate wingding out on Treasure Island. I talked to those Butler people.
Johnny Cash many years ago at Alameda Co - out in Pleasanton. Or did I dream it? Anyway, cute pig
I saw Johnny Cash and June Carter at a fair in Catskill, New York in the early 1990s.
I love the animals at County Fairs. Sacto had great FFA exhibits.
