Ah thanks so much Doug - I truly value your opinion. And thanks for clicking through - that Gener8ion thing is something, isn't it? Mind blowing. I really liked Gavras other one, Neo Surf, as well.
Also: labels. So important during that period of time, you could essentially trust them to bring you more of what you loved. Benign gatekeepers? I wish there were such a thing now. Now, with the promise of the internet "leveling the field", we have an endless flat field. Try finding what you love in that.
Dear Gina--I still buy band T-shirts at 69 yo since its a way to support a band now that recordings make so little money. On the other hand, I bought a Ramones T a few years ago, after the original 4 were gone, so I doubt it helped them...
Yeah, I like a good band t shirt myself and I get the economics. Plus I wear a lot of t shirts! But never wear the t shirt of the band I am seeing at the gig. My brother and I used to have a measure - the coolness of your t shirt slogan was dependent on how far away you were from the source, like it's OK to wear a USF t shirt in Paris, but not at USF.
This is not what I thought this essay would be. But it’s better and now I’m going to revisit DC which was not at all my thing back in the day.
I totally get that! It's definitely NOT ROCK. I wonder if you'll like it now? Let me know!
Damn, Gina, this riff is on a level of its own, top tier, and that link to Gener8ion had me trembling.

Always a pleasure to share in your adventures. Will play some DC today!
hope you like it! It's mellow!
Also a huge fan of Vini Reilly! Wow. Amazing.

Well someone must be doing so. The guard has changed...

Lovely words on The Durutti Column: For Vini gig. I was singing with the band and I'm so glad you enjoyed it, it's very special music :)
